How to connect Gmail to Orbit

Connecting Gmail lets Orbit send from your own address, auto-log email against the right contact, and track opens and clicks. It also gives Tess the context to draft replies in your voice. Gmail sync is part of the upcoming Pro plan, not the free plan, so this guide is a setup preview.

What does connecting Gmail do?

When Gmail is connected, Orbit becomes the place you read and answer email about a contact without leaving the timeline. Replies send from your real Gmail address, so the person sees you, not a CRM. Inbound mail from a known contact auto-logs to their record, so the history is complete without you copying anything.

You also get open and click tracking, which is what feeds the follow-up agents. When Tess sees an email was opened twice but never answered, that is a strong signal to draft a bump. This is the engine behind AI email follow-up.

Heads up: Gmail sync is part of the upcoming Pro plan, not the free plan. The free plan includes all 16 agents on your own keys, but live inbox sync, open and click tracking, and send-from-your-address arrive with Pro.

How do I connect Gmail to Orbit?

On Pro, the connection is a standard Google OAuth flow. Here is what it looks like.

  1. 1Open Settings and find the Integrations or Email area.
  2. 2Click Connect Gmail and sign in with the Google account you want to send from.
  3. 3Approve the permissions Google asks for, which cover reading and sending mail and matching it to your contacts.
  4. 4Pick your default send-from address if you have more than one.
  5. 5Send a test email from a contact record to confirm it lands from your real address and logs to the timeline.

Pro tip: build email templates so agents sound like you

The single best thing you can do before agents start drafting.

  • Save your go-to messages as templates: the day-3 bump, the meeting recap, the proposal nudge.
  • Write them the way you actually talk, with your phrasing and your sign-off. Agents draft from your patterns, so good templates mean drafts you can approve in one read.
  • Keep templates short and human. A 60-word bump beats a 200-word essay every time.
  • Steal the wording from the follow-up email templates page if you want a head start, then make it yours.

Frequently asked questions

Is Gmail integration free in Orbit?+

No. Gmail sync, including send-from-your-address and open and click tracking, is part of the upcoming Pro plan. The free plan still gives you all 16 AI agents on your own keys, unlimited contacts, and the rest of the CRM. Pro is coming soon.

Does Orbit send email from my real Gmail address?+

On the upcoming Pro plan, yes. Replies and outbound mail send from your connected Gmail address, so the person sees you rather than a CRM. Inbound mail from known contacts auto-logs to their timeline.

Can Orbit track email opens and clicks?+

Yes, once Gmail is connected on the upcoming Pro plan. Open and click tracking feed the follow-up agents. Tess uses signals like an opened-but-unanswered email to decide when to draft a bump for your approval.

Will connecting Gmail let agents send email automatically?+

No. Agents draft, you approve. Even with Gmail connected, every email an agent writes lands as a card you read, edit, or dismiss before it goes out. Nothing sends without your approval.

What permissions does Orbit need for Gmail?+

A standard Google OAuth grant covering reading mail, sending mail, and matching messages to your contacts. You approve it during the connection flow and can revoke it any time from your Google account settings.
